Crime Watch

Published by Peter | Filed under General, Places

I was saddened to receive this comment from reader Ben Patio:

Just a message for people living around the North Camberwell area, I was assaulted and robbed last night about 1am near Elmington Road. 9 times out of 10 I would get a cab back at that time in the morning, but for some reason I didn’t last night. Got a bit blase I think.

Anyway, not trying to scare anyone but wanted to let those people who often walk home early in the morning that there are some desperate people around.

And apologies to you Cheeks, this probably isn’t the sort of comment that you want on your blog, but i wanted to let everyone know.

You’re right, Ben, that’s not the sort of comment I want on my blog; I don’t want anyone to suffer being assaulted, let alone anyone I ‘know’.

I hope you get over this soon, and everyone else please be careful where you walk at night.

Thanks, I’m fine, a few cuts and bruises, and a bit sheepish because I was er, slightly pissed and I couldn’t really give a coherent account to the police.

  2. Shit. I live not far and my female housemates use that route as a cut through rather than go up Havil (which is the way I stumble home). I’ll pass this on to them and get well Ben Patio!

That’s nasty, it’s true that it’s easy to get blse about these things and forget that there are some seriously nasty people around at that time of night — having said that someone tried (to mug me i say tried as i was returning from quite a boozy lunch and belted the little git before i chance to think through the advisabilty of that course of action!!) at 5pm on a Sunday afternoon at the top of Coldharbour lane a couple of months ago, so i think sadly we need to keep our guard up at all times.

Yet again — not the sort of comments you want on your Blog — but another warning to be careful as a woman was raped in the kids play area on Camberwell Green at about 3am this Sunday morning — particuarly shocking as there are always a decent amount of people around Camberwell Green at that time getting off night buses etc…

And there were police scouring Brunswick Park on Monday. Dunno what’s going on, maybe it was a full moon on Sunday.

    Bad news and good beers

More bad crime news, I’m afraid. As reader Hannah pointed out, a woman was raped on Camberwell Green early on Sunday morning. The 22-year […]

sh*t. terrible news in this area. staggering home drunk is bad enough without having to fight off muggers. sorry to hear about this Ben.

There was an increase of Street wardens a few months back, but these have disappeared of late and are few and far between on an evening anyway.

I guess without meaning to sound heartless, these are inner city problems we face living where we do?
