Vote for Camberwell

Written by | Filed under General

This is very late notice, I know, but ITV’s London Tonight at 6pm, er, tonight, will feature a vote to award £50,000 of Lottery money to a deserving project — and the transformation of Camberwell Leisure Centre will be a part of that vote.

If you don’t get to see the programme you can still help by texting ‘LONDON A’ to 63330 or calling 0845 6071901 before midnight tonight (Thursday, September 3).

A flyer I was given outside Butterfly Walk tonight says:

You can play an important part in the regeneration of Camberwell Leisure Centre and the creation of an arts and community space in the heart of Camberwell, just by voting by phone or text for… ‘Mad About Life’ (a partnership between Fusion, Creative Routes and Camberwell Arts).

If you think Camberwell deserves this award (and let’s face it, it really could do with it) you can help by texting and phoning tonight. Get your friends and family to do likewise. Don’t let The English Folk Dance And Song Society waste it on a sound garden!

Thanks to Sarah for the heads-up.

Update: Just watched the news feature; why did the woman who did the voiceover twice refer to it as Camden???

I may be being churlish here, but Camberwell Leisure Centre needs about £1m spending on it to make it fit for public use in the 21st century. I can’t see the point of spending £50k on doing up two rooms.

  2. Cheeks says:

I agree, Ben, but it’s more for the arts side than the sports side. It needs serious investment, and that should be government rather than lottery money.

  3. Hannah says:

Have you seen the latest edition of Time Out? Camberwell is named as one of the things in London that’s a bit shit — rather rude i thought!
I bet Michael Hodges is too blame for that one

They also lay into the 345 bus as “useless” not if you live in Camberwell and want to go to Clapham or battersea it’s not!

  4. […] The English Folk Dance and Song Society won the People’s Millions vote. (A)pathetic. […]
