I was on holiday when all this was happening. Has anything happened since?

Tommy D and Lord Henry ahve moved out. Ben Patio has too.

Joquim and Mel have not opened their bar yet and the smoking ban and the worst summer in living memory combined to make many publicans quake about their futures.

I myself emigrated from the Emerald Isle in the '30s, having been born on Pater's palatial estate in Connemara (the bounder was both an absentee father and and absentee landlord). I arrived on the boat-train from Holyhead in the company of my Irish brethren (I say "brethren", they were more like indentured servants) who were fleeing the famine, or something of that ilk.

Every so often the whole bloody lot of us would go up to visit Auntie Bertha in the country and take part in a spot of hunting. You may have heard the scandal that resulted. Of course, I was acquitted, and the poor young man's aged crone of a mother received her blood money in due course.

We need more cannon fodder for the Empire, say I.

Which country is that, Croyboy? The country of the Picts? The Celts? The Romans? The Danes? The Angles? The Saxons? The Normans? At which point do we stop history and say "this is our country"? This is the 21st century; time for you to grow up.

You talk about “the mix of different cultures that gives it [Camberwell] an edge”. On this page Stuart mentions “the inevitable increase in house prices…”
The latter is caused by the former: it’s called “supply and demand”, in case you didn’t know. i.e. there are too many bloody “different cultures” represented there.
Hey, I want my country back!
