MelR - this is Brown's doing. Realises he's left the renewables thing lamentably late to hit self-imposed emissions targets.

Can Britain get by with just 5 days' energy a week? The Peckham Road test blackout is to see whether a crowd gathers outside the nearby town hall, and so far, so good...

Blame it on Putin. This song came out a couple of months ago:

..and we may need "a man like Putin" to blame for these blackouts, if that's the only way to hit the targets.

Cheers Mark, Regeneguru. I can't make tomorrow evening, but if meetings can be highlighted on the Forum site I promise to make an effort to come along in the future.

In the meantime back to chit-chatting. Was anyone else affected by the power cut along my stretch of Peckham Road last night/this morning? The lights went out at about 7.30pm and still no power when I left this morning at 9am. It was quite a novelty, having nothing for company but 2 candles and being in bed by 9.30pm for lack of anything else to do and not enough light to read. But the lack of a hot shower in the morning, and the food slowly going off in the fridge could wear thin. Hope it's fixed tonight.

Good point Mel and Tanera. The forum website is not been updated because of tedious problems.

The NEXT Forum meeting is this Wednesday evening. Where is tomorrow's posting. Or Hannah or regen might be able to help if they see this.

@ Mark, 105:
"Participation in this case means doing more than going out and having a drink locally. It means getting out to meetings once in a while that have more to do with the future of the area than discussing whether one pub’s particular pint & pie are better value or served better than another’s."

When is the next SE5 Forum meeting? I'd be interested in coming along to hear what's going on (or not going on as the case may be). The meetings should be more widely announced. I don't think they're listed on the Forum site, or have I missed them?

We had a meal in Caravaggio yesterday evening, and thought it was excellent. The cost would have gone up if we'd had fish or meat, but we stuck to the pasta and a couple of side dishes and a glass each of house wine so it was quite cheap. The dining room has half a dozen Caravaggios on the wall - I spent my evening looking at a beheaded Goliath, which didn't put me off my meal one bit. Soft music in the background - Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, that sort of thing.

We asked if there was any link with Mozzarella e Pomodoro. The man who took our order said that he and one other person had formerly worked at M&P, but that other than that there was no link.

We've only been to M&P a couple of times - much too noisy, and we didn't think the food was particularly special. Caravaggio is much, much nicer, at least for our taste. I hope they manage to carry on delivering the same quality for much the same price.

Sure - I like jolloff rice with steamed fish and plantaine.

I've had yam in there too which was nice but it's a bit heavy in your stomach later...

I felt the same way about going in there but I bit the bullet and asked theguy to make a recommendation.

@113,
Alan, I'd like to go into Lip Smacking African Cuisine one time but I find the menu a bit baffling, could you recommend me something to order?

@114 and 115 unfortunately as i have pointed out earlier up on the thread DCMS guidance on Saturation Policies states that Off licenses and supermarkets that sell alcohol would not normally be able to be considered as evidence for a Saturation Zone - i think Southwark would have to gather some very very good evidence against the Off sales trade in camberwell and prove that it contributed to amny of the areas problems to prevent a proposed policy from being challenged in court. Otherwise Camberwell could end up with a policy that hinders growth and new business innovation whilst failing to deal with existing problems.
