Heard it on radio at home. Well done Bermondsey. Surely Haye deserves a 2 for 1 at the Grand Union.

Caravaggio is a proper Italian restaurant and so IMHO it's a shame if you stick to basic Italian dishes such as pasta. Try out their specials (about £10-£13 - they have 3 or 4 specials every day, ask them), or try out their menu chicken and fish dishes, you won't be disappointed!

We had our wedding reception there and my (French) family was properly impressed with Caravaggio - and trust me, French people are difficult to impress when it comes to food! Since our reception (July), we've had several friends from North of the river making the trip down to Caravaggio so it IS possible for a restaurant in Camberwell to attract people from all over London :-)

Also, staff is very nice and skilled - if you order fish on the bone, get them to de-bone it for you, you'll be suitably impressed with their dexterity (at least, I am, because I always make quite a mess when I have to de-bone fish lol).

It has to be noted though that while they have yummy starters suitable for vegetarians (try their insalata tricolore), their choice of suitable mains isn't the best so I wouldn't recommend going there if you're vegetarian.

Hi, here's my belated reply to Tehbus's call to share a few foodie tips.
In no particular order:

1. The £3.50 Lamb/chicken/falafel wraps at Falafel. Superb stuff when you don't feel like a big meal. Carrot juice also good.
2. Buy your own char siu roast pork or roast duck at the Eastern supermarket. The pork can be bought in q small pieces, livens up rice and noodles.
3. Beef fried ho fun noodles at Ginseng Noodle. Surprisingly yummy in a greasy way. As good as the better places in Chinatown.
4. Duck crispy fried noodles at Viet Hoa. My regular dish here. Better than the popular Young Cheng in Chinatown. Note that ownership is undergoing change.
5. Get your garlic and ginger from the yam shop at former Rhino Sports. Fresh n very cheap.
6. Crispy meat-stuffed cigar thingies from Sophocles. Good £1 snack for when you’re walking round the shops.
7. Pork belly at Morrisons. They seem keen on the stuff, and it’s tasty value.
8. Polish lagers. Beyond Tyskie and the other big brands some unusual and often q strong ones pop up in SE5’s alky joints. Look out for them.
9. Curried goat from the takeaway near the hospital on left towards Denmark Hill.
10. Kebabs at Silk Road. Lamb ones good, tripe ones very interesting...

I will second the Pasha. Took my parents there last weekend and they loved it. The beauty of it is the approach to the restaurant, where you can't quite believe you're even going the right way... then finally at the end of a corridor, you open an unassuming door, and are hit by the surprise of it! And the food's good too.
